Masks are not required at The Institute for Learning in Retirement.

We are on ZOOM.

For over 30 years, south Florida-based, The Institute for Learning in Retirement aka ILIR, a feisty lifelong learning community has hosted small, interactive community classes for adults led by volunteer presenters. Prior to COVID, ILIR met at the Boca Raton Community Center.

Although we miss learning and meeting new people in person, we have been able to maintain our learning community and continue our friendships on ZOOM. ILIR has recruited speakers from all over the country. Presenters include retired professionals, community activists, university faculty and PhD candidates, government officials, authors, and others.

At ILIR, I had a chance to listen to very interesting lectures given by informed presenters from a wide variety of backgrounds.

In the words of one ILIR regular, “At ILIR, I had a chance to listen to very interesting lectures given by informed presenters from a wide variety of backgrounds on diverse topics that I didn’t know I was interested in, and all at a very reasonable cost. Just as importantly, I enjoyed the company of people who are interested in engaging in conversation.”

Winter session begins on January 10th. Classes include Current Events, Women in Science, Mind Odysseys and Other Journeys; Arts, Music, Literature and more; Book Talk; Issues and Ideas; Film Club; and Healthy Relationships in Our Senior Years. Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  In winter session, ILIR will be hosting happy hour classes featuring authors, actresses and writers and a fundraising event with Dr. Robert Watson and his rock and roll band. To view the winter schedule and register for classes, go to the ILIR website at iliretirement.org or call 561-883-0999. Registration to attend all classes in winter session is $110/person or $165/household. First class is free.
