China-Russia Relations after the Ukraine Invasion: A Shifting World Order?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has sent shockwaves through existing paradigms of the international order. In the wake of the invasion, eyes have largely turned to China’s reaction. Commentary has featured Western anger at Beijing’s perceived complicity with Russian aggression, questions of China’s enforcement of Western sanctions, and what the Ukraine situation means for China’s planned “reunification” with Taiwan. This talk will examine China’s reaction to the Ukraine invasion, the dynamics at play in China-Russia relations, and what these means for the future world order as the U.S. seeks to maintain its alliances and international prominence.
